Board for breast cancer
Saturday, 20 September 2003
Perisher Blue Ski Resort may still be enjoying a phenomenally great end-of season, with bucket-loads of fresh snow having fallen in the past week ensuring awesome conditions in the lead up to season close, October 12. But stars from the recent Boarding For Breast Cancer Day, an event that saw Australia's leading professional snowboarders get together on August 30 to raise money and awareness for the National Breast Cancer Center (NBCC), will be hitting the surf instead!

ALL WELCOME
Time: 9.30 am
Date: Friday, 19th September.
Location: Gold Coast Surf Coaching, Rainbow Bay.

Australia's top ranked female snow boarder Katie Brauer, and the UK's top ranked snowboarder Jenny Jones will be attending a surf lesson at Coolangatta's Rainbow Bay through Gold Coast Surf Coaching- run by former professional surfer Dave Davidson. Dave coaches beginners right through to elite surfers like Cory Ziems and currently ranked WCT #5 surfer Chelsea Georgeson, and has even coached the Australian team at the 2000 World Titles in Brazil.

Dave assures us that these elite snowboarders should take to the water like ducks, "With their natural sense of balance and the right guidance, they should be carving up the waves in no time" he said, adding "But that doesn't mean they won't be pretty amusing to watch in the meantime!"

Katie and Jenny are on the Gold Coast to receive a generous four hundred dollar donation to the National Breast Cancer Center from local surf charity organisation S.A.N.D., which brings the tally of money raised by the event to over $13,000.

S.A.N.D joins the massive list of surf /snow companies who supported the Boarding For Breast Cancer Day, including event sponsors Electric, Burton, Roxy, Mambo, Billabong, RipCurl, Hurley, DC Shoe Co USA and 1800 Reverse

The Boarding For Breast Cancer Day was a non-profit initiative organized by a broad collective of volunteers from the sports industry sector- including leading Australian professional snowboarders Sasha Ryzy and Katie Brauer, and designed as a fun get-together to promote a healthy sport and an even healthier awareness- that the best defense against breast cancer is early detection. The National Breast Cancer Center (NBCC) is Australia?s definitive research based, non-profit organization that deals with all aspects of breast cancer awareness, providing improved access to breast cancer diagnosis, treatment and support to patients of the prevalent disease.
