Online Ski Travel Agency Sees Christmas Bookings Up By Nearly A Half
Saturday, 13 December 2003

Online ski specialist Skideals.com has seen bookings for the festive period rise by 47% compared to those made last Christmas.

David Hawke, head of Skideals.com said: "This year, bookings have risen dramatically for the Christmas period. The industry usually experiences a slight drop in bookings for Christmas, as many people prefer to spend the holiday at home with their families, and are more likely to go away in the New Year."

"However, ski holidays are now more affordable than ever before, and the lure of a white Christmas - rather than a damp and drizzly Christmas has become too much for holidaymakers to resist. Skiing is the ultimate Yuletide getaway and is now more accessible due to the number of regional airports flying to popular winter sports destinations.

Skideals.com's most popular resort currently booking for the Christmas period is Val Thorens which is also Europe's highest ski resort. Resorts in Italy such as Sauze D'Oulx and Sestriere are also proving popular.

However, it's not just the skiers and snowboarders who are heading for the hills. David added: "Lapland, in Finland, is emerging as our 'hottest,' or possibly the chilliest 'short-break' destination, as holidaymakers race to see Santa to drop off their Christmas wish-lists in person.

Skideals.com also operate a booking line on 0800 027 8073.
