New Italian Law Makes Helmets for Children Compulsory
Saturday, 13 December 2003

A new law for the Italian ski industry comes in to force this winter, the main regulation likely to affect recreational skiing families as a requirement that all children skiing and boarding on Italian ski slopes wear helmets.

Among the ideas initially proposed in the draft law were separate ski slopes for skiers and borders, but these appear to have been dropped from the final version. However a raft of measures to regulate the behaviour of skiers and the other snow sport enthusiasts as well as managing ski areas in total safety will be regulated.

Italian ski areas are all preparing to implement the new regulations, amongst them Cortina and Arabba ski schools are issuing free ski helmets to all children taking lessons with them.
