Aberdeenshire snowboarder tipped for Olympic gold
Wednesday, 14 April 2004

A teenage snowboarder from Aberdeenshire is aiming for Winter Olympic gold after successfully defending his British title.

Ben Kilner is the British youth half pipe champion title at the Orange British Snowboarding Championships.

Ben Kilner is being tipped for the top - but like every other fiteen year-old he still has his Standard Grade exams to worry about.

With his snowboards put to one side, it's back to the books for fifteen year-old Ben Kilner as he prepares for his Standard Grade exams.

The fourth-year Banchory Academy pupil has just returned from a European tour having won gold in the Orange British Snowboard and Freestyle Ski Championships in France.

Ben, who took up the sport when he was nine, claimed the youth half-pipe title despite having a dislocated wrist - and that's why he's regarded as one of the hottest young talents in world snowboarding.

While recognising the importance of his school work - snowboarding is where his true ambitions lie.

And it was just by chance that Ben took up snowboarding six years ago.

With no snow in sight, Ben turned to another of his seemingly endless talents as he took a break from studying to play the piano - it appears he's an all-round entertainer.
