America's First HALFPIPE Coaster Now Open
Thursday, 27 May 2004

You don't have to be an extreme boarder these days to thrash and spin your way up and down a halfpipe. Nor do you need any snow.

Six Flags Elitch Gardens opens yet another thrill ride at Colorado's Coaster Capital -- HALFPIPE. A ten-story-tall structure, the Halfpipe is the first of its kind in America and is an exaggerated and exponentially exciting take on hitting the slopes with a snowboard.

"The Halfpipe is perfect for Six Flags Elitch Gardens and Colorado," said Tara Tongco, park spokesperson. "It's a tribute to the winter adventures the mountains offer and an outrageous thrill that everyone can enjoy -- whether or not you've been on a snowboard."

Riders can spin countless 360s at heights of up to 10 stories high on a gigantic 39-foot-long board. Sixteen thrill-seeking riders sit safely in two circular cars that spin independently as the board carves its way up and down the tallest Halfpipe around. Each ride is unique, because weight distribution and gravity determine how the cars spin.

The Halfpipe is the second new, ground-breaking coaster at the park in the past few years. "Having yet another first at Six Flags Elitch Gardens is a thrilling honor," Tongco said. "In 2002, we had the first-ever Flying Coaster. Now, we have the first Halfpipe thrill ride in America."

The Halfpipe is located at the south end of the park, near the Boomerang coaster.

Six Flags Elitch Gardens is now open daily. The park is located in downtown Denver off I-25 at Exit 212A. For more information on dates, prices, and hours of operation, visit sixflags.com or call 303.595.4386.
