With an estimated one million UK travellers[1] embarking on a winter sports holiday this season, Post Office(R) travel services is urging skiers and snowboarders to make sure they have adequate travel insurance to avoid falling down the slippery slope of expensive bills should they have an accident. Research from Post Office(R) travel services[2] reveals: - The popularity of France, Austria and Italy as winter holiday destinations is reflected in the number of claims, with almost a third (32 per cent) of claims being made for accidents occurring at French resorts - A third (33 per cent) of ski/winter sports claims last year were for medical costs, with the average cost being GBP1,200 - 16 per cent of ski/winter sports claims were for lost or stolen luggage, while one claim in ten was for cancellation or non-departure - Skiers/snowboarders between the ages of 18-29 are most prone to accidents, followed by those aged 40-49. 18-29 year olds were also most likely to lose their baggage or have it stolen The Post Office(R) Ski and Winter Sports insurance policy covers travellers for: - Injury, damaged or stolen equipment, resort closure or transportation to another resort if there isn't enough snow - A wide range of winter sports, including skiing, snowboarding, Nordic skiing and off-piste skiing (with a qualified guide or instructor).
