8 am Sunday 23rd March 2008. The final races of the season will take place in Bormio, Italy where the conditions have improved considerably since the cancellation of last week’s Downhill races
Nick Fellows is joined by former British No. 1 skier Konrad Bartelski as they focus on the technical events of Slalom and Grand Slalom.
Jean-Baptiste Grange leads the chase for the Men’s Slalom title with one Slalom race remaining. In the Giant Slalom standings, American Ted Ligety holds the lead heading into this weekend’s final race. In the 2006 Winter Olympics, Ligety became the first American to win the Gold Medal in the Olympic Combined, and the youngest American male to win a Gold Medal in any Alpine Skiing event.
On the women’s side, 26 year old Austrian Marlies Schild leads in the Women’s Slalom standings. Schild has 20 World Cup victories and 44 podiums in her career. Italian Denise Karbon has already wrapped up the Women’s Giant Slalom title.
American Bode Miller continues to lead Didier Cuche of Switzerland in the Men’s Overall Cup standings. The 30 year old American looks to dispel doubters after a disappointing 2006 Winter Olympics and after quitting the U.S. Ski Team before this season. A win in the Overall would resoundingly show that he is still a force on the slopes.
In the Women’s Overall standings, American Lindsey Vonn maintains her lead over German Maria Riesch. The 23 year old American looks to add to her illustrious career. As a teenager, Vonn became the only American to win at Italy’s Trofeo Topolino and win Junior World’s Medals and U.S. titles.
