Heavy Snow in Scotland
Wednesday, 28 January 2004

Most of Scotland's ski areas were closed today (Wednesday January 28th) as heavy snow driven in by gale force winds closed access roads for a time to all three Easterly centres (The Lecht, Glenshee and Cairngorm above Aviemore). Nevis Range on the West was able to open.

The severe weather is expected to continue in to Thursday but then calm down, leaving things looking good for the weekend - hopefully a repeat of the weekend before last when the five areas were overwhelmed by skiers and boarders on the Saturday morning for a rare Scottish blue sky, wind-free, fresh powder day.

Low cost flights to Inverness (as low as 24 each way plus tax) are available from BA (www.ba.com) from Gatwick and on Easy Jet from Luton and Gatwick. Snow and access road conditions at: http://ski.visitscotland.com/conditions/
