The man, whose name has not been released, was killed when he was buried in the avalanche while snowboarding at the Palandoken resort in the eastern Turkish province of Erzurum.

According to Erzurums deputy governor, Aslan Karanfil, the 18 year olds body was found under 10 metres of snow.

The deputy governor said that the dead man and four companions had been snowboarding in an area that was out of bounds.

We believe the group triggered the avalanche by practising on snow not ripe for skiing in the banned area, he said.
