K2 Snowboarding Goes Global With European Riders

Martina Tscharner
VASHON ISLAND, Wash. (February 25, 2005) Rounding the head count to a six-pack, K2 Snowboarding today proudly introduced Swiss snowboarder and former ISF World Halfpipe Champion, Martina Tscharner, as the latest addition to the K2 Snowboarding Alliance Team.

Tscharner hails from Davos, Switzerland and will add a global perspective to the Alliances product development efforts, giving feedback on the diverse riding conditions she encounters, and providing input on European styling and design.

I feel great to be even more involved with K2. I think its a good idea to have the Alliance because snowboarding is developing fast and in different directions, said Tscharner. Theres not only snowboarding for professionals but also for women who just want to have fun. For myself, it is really interesting to see what we can do to fascinate other women with the element of snow and give them a good choice of high and solid quality equipment.

Tscharner, an established part of the face of K2 Snowboarding in Europe, has been riding for over 17 years, 11 of which have been on K2 snowboards. During her professional career, Tscharner won the Halfpipe World Championships in 1999, with K2 as a consistent sponsor and provider of quality products that helped her reach her goals. Tscharner is also a world traveler who seems to always pack her snowboard, having visited countries including Chile, Iceland, and Japan to do what she does best. Most recently, Tscharner stepped away from competition to focus on her studies and spend more time at her native mountains.

Throughout her history with K2, Martina has been open-minded and not afraid of speaking up, making her ideal for the Alliance Team, said Danielle Hambleton, Alliance Project Leader for K2 Snowboarding. The constant flow of rider input from the Alliance Team combined with K2s continued commitment towards breast cancer research provides women with product they have confidence in while supporting a charity that is close to all of our hearts.
